BRAKE CYLINDERS

We supply new Westinghouse 8 x10” brake cylinders for smaller cars, (12-ton like car 183 here at Ridgewood or a Birney’s car) In the range of 28’-33’ length.

Because this is a universal brake cylinder for small cars, it requires a supply line adapter. Please contact us for 1/2 threaded adapter flange and O-ring. Weight 62 lbs. Westinghouse tech drawing available.-

We have 1 interurban control resistance grid bank in stock. It is in excellent physical condition. No broken grids. It can be tested in our shop. At 700 vdc. With a light load and a resistor. Each box should average between 1 and 3 OHMs. These are heavy grids not like #1, 2, and 3. Designed for control of a 4-motor car at 125 HP per motor.

We would advise a plywood case on a pallet to protect the grids from potential damage.

Railway locomotives have increasingly high amperage circuit breakers in the range of hundreds of amps.  The old Westinghouse and General Electric line breakers for trolley cars seldom exceeded even on large equipment, 200 amps.  For protection of the motormen overhead magnetic line breakers could usually be tuned from 40 to 75 amps.  Why?  Substations for transit operations usually had 2000 or more amps available to the transit system.  A K controller in a short circuit (line voltage to ground) could and sometimes did explode.  A sensitive line breaker saved many a car an injury of operator.

We still service line breakers, MR12, MR22 and other industrial line breakers and we will recalibrate the spring amperage disconnect.

S16C Westinghouse Air Governor. Pressure range 60-160 psi. Operating range 85-100 psi.  Seems to be complete. May need gaskets. Comes with cover. Price $800.

Westinghouse Type J. Normally found on interurban cars up to about 1920. 

Description: 1 used complete Type J air governor for DH-12 and DH-16 type air compressors. 1 without a cover may be ok, but we would suggest it for spare parts.
